How to plan and deliver environmentally sustainable events

A practical, useful guide for event organisers and suppliers.

This guide provides simple, practical steps to support planning and delivery and help to minimise resource usage.

It is written primarily for event organisers as an aide memoire, a source of top tips to signpost further in-depth information. Savvy suppliers, venues, caterers, stand or set designers and waste management companies can check out the relevant sections to glean what event organisers will be expecting and asking you for!

The guide builds on learnings from high profile events hosted by Scotland during 2014, including Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, the Ryder Cup 2014, Homecoming Scotland and Festival 2014,

It has been developed to showcase best practice and act as a quick reference guide for key topics including energy, water, waste management, venue, catering and transportation.

Zero Waste Scotland’s Resource Efficient Scotland programme worked with event organising committees including Glasgow 2014 and Ryder Cup Green Drive to ensure events made efficient use of energy, water and raw materials, and recycled where possible.  Resource Efficient Scotland works with EventScotland, VisitScotland and the Scottish Tourism Alliance to share guidance and support with the wider events sector in Scotland.
